Darling Little Man

It has been awhile since I did a newborn session, and I almost forgot how fun they can be. Especially when the guest of honor is brand-spankin' new -- this guy was about 12 days old -- and especially when he's so incredibly good-natured and darling.

This family's gallery is going to be pretty big, so here's a big preview. I might even be back to post a post-view... there are that many shots worth sharing with the world. :)

Little Lovely

I am extremely grateful for the life I lead, but I admit that every once in awhile I find myself feeling like a hamster on a wheel. Dashing from place to place, cramming in errands and housework during every free minute. Juggling three kids and the business that I have carefully built over the last few years. Toss in one of my own kids' birthdays and the last week of school and I swear, I know how that darn hamster feels.

Fortunately, this hamster had a little help. My parents were in town this week and lent a big hand with the kids. My husband continued to cover some of the bases -- okay, several of them -- for me. And I got the privilege of photographing a couple of special little people.

First up was a precious little baby girl. Just eight days old, and already she and her parents seemed to have settled right into life as a family. It was a joy to be able to spend time with them all and to capture her at this fleeting stage.

This is one gorgeous little girl.

This morning's session was with a birthday boy who hit one this week. I'll be back soon with a few photos of him...

Win a FREE newborn session!

Yesterday I received a package from the incredibly talented photographer/knitter/crafter Heather Bauers. I contains a sweet little knitted cocoon and a selection of A-DOR-ABLE newborn hats. (She just had a baby and her inventory is somewhat limited right now, but keep an eye on her etsy shop for some of the cutest newborn accessories you'll see anywhere.)

ANYWAY, unpacking my goodies gave me the strong desire to add another newborn or two to the coming months' schedule. The possibilities for darling photos are just too tempting. SO. At the risk of driving my CFO/husband a bit bonkers, I'm staging a little giveaway. If you're pregnant, or if you know someone who is (winning it for her would be an awesome gift!), this one is for you.

Easy-peasy to enter. Just leave a comment here or on my Facebook page by 11:59 p.m. Thursday, January 13. I'll draw one winner from all comments received in both places. The winner of a FREE newborn session (a $185 value) will be announced here and on Facebook on Friday the 14th.
The fine print: This giveaway is applicable only to babies not yet born. If you win, I'll pencil in your due date and then confirm the session date and time with you once your baby arrives. Please note that I photograph newborns before they are two weeks old (5-10 days old is ideal), because this gives us the best opportunities for those sweet sleepy images.

And since no post is good without a photo, here you go. It doesn't feature any cool hats or accessories, but darn if it isn't cute.

A Little Treat

As I bounce like a pinball between various work projects and the demands of my family this weekend, I'm popping on here to share a quick glimpse of a 6-week-old cutie.

Here's Baby D, the result of this pregnancy and little brother of Mr. T. (And yes, this little dude was early as well.)

Long Time Coming

Usually, I pencil in my newborn sessions and generally keep tabs on how and when those babies make it into the world. I am interested, certainly, and I am especially excited when I know the families well. I look forward to the day when I get to photograph the new little love.

In this case, however, it was a long time coming. You see, the mommy in this case was my own daughter's preschool teacher. And given my girly's preoccupation with babies and all things maternal, I heard regular updates. VERY regular updates. Along with far-fetched theories regaring how often Mrs. W was going to be visiting classmates' homes with baby in tow.

So when Baby S finally arrived, I was fired up to finally meet him. Unfortunately, his premature arrival coincided with the end of the school year and some other events, and we weren't able to get together until he was a month old. It may have been a long time coming, but it was worth the wait; he was a doll.

So glad things finally fell into place! I hope the whole W family enjoys a fun and amazing summer. What a very special time. :)

Introducing Baby B

I present to you my newest little buddy: Sweet Baby B. He and his big brother are destined to be heartbreakers -- you can already tell. I'd show you a photo of Big Bro, but he was a tough one to catch. ;)

Thanks, T & MA for spending your morning with me and for allowing me to photograph your family. The gallery will be a big one, so I've included a few extra shots here in your preview.

Meet Mr. B

I had a great time meeting little B and getting to know his big sibs as well. He will have two fun and enthusiastic playmates as he grows -- lucky guy!

The Lovely Miss A

This sweet little girl was not a deep sleeper -- at least not for me. But she was every inch a doll, as was her fabulous big sister.

I am always pleased when my clients refer me to their friends, which is just how this family came to be in my home today. I've grown my business over the last year and a half almost exclusively through word of mouth, and I am truly honored and grateful for that.

Without further adieu, I present the lovely Miss A.

Wonder Twins

Here are a few highlights from Friday's session with the adorable L&L, 8-week-old twins who were sweet as can be.

I should also note that these little sweethearts have perhaps the most flawless skin I have ever seen. I often hear from new parents that they want to have their newborn photographed but are concerned because of baby blemishes or self-inflicted scratch marks from those itty-bitty-but-super-sharp fingernails. I am always quick to point out that these things are very, very common and can be easily edited out. No need to have that talk this time, though. These two were amazing!

While both babies obliged with quick naps that afforded great posing opportunities, they decided that is was definitely NOT COOL to sleep at the same time. Ah, well -- we managed a few shots of them together and awake. This one makes me think of those Saturday morning cartoons, and the refrain, "Wonder Twin powers, activate!"

C, I look forward to sharing your entire gallery with you soon. Thanks again for the opportunity to photograph your little angels. :)

Little Lovies at 4 Months

My little buddies hit four months recently and came back for their monthly session. I can't stress enough how incredibly SWEET these guys are.

It was a rough morning for Mama leading up to our time together, and I have to say that a teeny tiny part of me was relieved to see a chink in the armor. This woman handles all of the stress and chaos of her new life with such grace and poise that I was starting to wonder if she knew some secret that the rest of us don't. ;)

Here's a nice big preview to thank her for all her efforts yesterday. (And I'm sending you many good vibes for smoother sailing in the next few days, T.)
